Fiji Asparagus:

Also known as Sugarcane Flower. Its scientific name is 'saccharum edule hasskarl'.

It is the edible unopened flower of a cane shoot. More than half a century ago, sugarcane flower was one of the comfort food in Singapore. During those days, sugarcane plantations were common sights in Singapore's agricultural landscape. As commercial sugarcane were propagated by cuttings, these flowers were redundant by-product. Hence, farmers harvested these corn-like unopened flowers and sold them in the marketplace.
